Although the series is scripted, it is on the History Channel, so one would have to expect that the stories would remain as historically accurate as possible. Without knowing exactly which source materials will be favored for the mini-series, it is anyone's guess just how far producers will push the plot lines and how much focus will be on the personal relationships involving Jackie and JFK.
The announcement is somewhat of a boost for Katie Holmes, even though it is a mini-series on the History Channel. It's a certainty that other reputable stars were very interested in portraying an American icon like Jackie Kennedy. Even the get of Kinnear as JFK is a pretty big score for the history channel. It's safe to call him A-List, even though he may fly under the radar to a degree. He's held his own with the likes of Nicholson and others in blockbuster hits.
There will certainly be some speculation as to what role - if any - Tom Cruise played in securing the role of Jackie Kennedy for his wife. Since their marriage and the birth of their daughter, Suri, Katie Holmes has largely stayed out of the spotlight, picking up a few gigs here and there.
The mini-series, The Kennedys, is set to air on the History Channel at some point in 2011. It is unknown when or where filming will take place for the series, although it may be safe to assume that a History Channel production will shoot on-location at the White House and in Massachusetts to help ensure the feel of authenticity.
